On May 11, 2024, the 8th Open Friendship Tennis Tournament, competing for the ECO PAY Cup, took place at the HCMC Cultural Palace for Labors, featuring thrilling matches and unexpected developments.

COMPETING FOR THE ECO PAY CUP

The Open Friendship Tennis Tournament is an annual sports event organized by the Friendship Association. This year, ECO PAY is the official sponsor of the tournament, aiming to promote sportsmanship and foster the spirit of camaraderie. Through this sponsorship, ECO PAY seeks to strengthen relationships among participants and club athletes while encouraging the growth of the sports community.

The tournament officially kicked off in April-May 2024, attracting over 48 athletes, divided into 24 pairs competing in a Double Elimination format (Winners’ and Losers’ brackets) in doubles play (A+, A, B+, B levels). The athletes were seeded and randomly paired by the organizing committee, ensuring a fair and exciting competition for all participants.

In addition to being the main sponsor, ECO PAY also had six athletes competing in the tournament. The competing pairs, along with the athletes representing ECO PAY, gave their all, demonstrating sportsmanship and delivering impressive performances that captivated the audience with thrilling matches.

After the opening ceremony, the athletes started competing in a charged atmosphere of excitement and joy. The enthusiastic cheers from the supporters, along with the meticulous preparation of the venue and logistics by the organizers, heightened the thrill of each match as the tournament unfolded.

The final match was highly intense and truly deserving of the title of the tournament’s best match. Both teams battled for every point, pushing the score to 5-5, which led to a tie-break (first to 7). In this game, often compared to a penalty shootout, both teams continued a thrilling back-and-forth chase. With the enthusiastic support of the entire audience at the Cultural Palace for Labors, the teams fought neck-and-neck until the very last moment.

In the end, the pair of Nguyễn Can Trường and Nguyễn Trường Vũ emerged victorious, narrowly defeating Trương Tuấn Tài and Nguyễn Thanh Phương 7-6 in the tie-break and securing a 6-5 overall win to claim the championship title of the 8th Friendship Open Tournament, ECO PAY Cup.
